Everyone thinks of winter sports insurance to go skiing, but other adventure activities like snowboarding or ice hockey aren't always covered by normal travel policies.

There are an increasing number of winter sports for which travelers need insurance. Going beyond well-known activities such as skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding, adventurous travelers looking for new thrills are now also getting into big foot skiing, mono skiing, cat skiing, glacier skiing, snow blading, and even playing ice hockey on holiday.

Many conventional travel insurance policies exclude winter activities, and others only cover the most popular such as skiing and snowboarding. But one British insurance company has introduced a special winter sports insurance policy which covers not only all of these activities but others such as sledging and toboganning.

These last two are the kinds of fun things that people who don't normally do winter sports might be tempted to try on a regular vacation. Or they might look like safer but still exciting options for those who are less adventurous than their partners. Not all winter sports insurance policies cover them, though, so it's important to read the small print. It's even more important to read the small print of regular travel insurance policies, which might well exclude them too. The chance to go toboganning or sledging is often offered in winter sports holiday destinations, and while for the most part they are fairly safe activities, toboganning accidents can be fatal, and injuries can be very costly. Insurance is 100% essential.

British travel insurance specialists Insurefor.com provide a fully comprehensive winter sports policy which not only insures against injuries but also against piste closure, which can ruin a winter activity break almost as much as an injury could. Avalanche cover and equipment damage is also covered.
