Senior citizens and OAPs need travel insurance more than most and UK insurance specialist Insurefor.com has special medical policies for those over 60 and under 85.

Older travelers can sometimes find it hard to get adequate travel insurance coverage, especially where pre-existing medical conditions are involved. The British-based specialist insurance company, Insurefor.com, which specialises in direct-sell insurance policies in niche areas such as winter sports insurance, supplier failure travel insurance, golf insurance, backpackers travel insurance and other areas of the holiday market, now also offers travel policies specifically for the senior citizen and OAP.

All travel insurance policies booked with insurefor.com, whether for mature travelers or anyone else, automatically include their airline and supplier failure travel insurance coverage.

Travel insurance for seniors allows for the inclusion of pre-existing medical conditions, something that many travel insurance policies specifically exclude, making it impossible for the older travelers to take vacations or other trips with adequate medical coverage.

Insurefor.com's policies for over-60s through to those aged 84 are available only to residents of the UK, Ireland, and the member countries of the European Union. Insurance coverage is provided by Europ Assistance, who insure millions of travelers every year.

Certain conditions do apply to senior travelers, such as:

  • Travelers can only be away for a maximum of 183 days in each year
  • Maximum single-trip duration is 18 consecutive months for 60- to 65-year-olds
  • Maximum single-trip duration is 93 consecutive days for 66- to 79-year-olds
  • Single-trip cover is available up to age 84
  • Annual travel insurance is available up to age 79

There are three levels of senior travel insurance policy coverage available: Economy, Standard, and Premier. Economy coverage provides, for example, up to £3 million in medical emergency and repatriation expenses, with a £150 excess. Standard coverage increases this to £5 million and reduces the excess payment to £100. Premier coverage provides coverage up to £10 million, with an excess of £60. All policies include cancellation or curtailment insurance, loss of the traveler's personal effects including cash and baggage, and any legal expenses that might be required.

Standard coverage for a single trip within Europe, for example, costs from £12.09 at the time of writing. Visit the Insurefor.com website for current coverage details.

One bonus of the special over-60s policy is that it provides senior travelers with support and advice from the date the policy is taken out. Policies come with a special pre-travel advice helpline phone number, where travelers can get help and information on any aspect of their trip, including visas, vaccinations, luggage allowances, and any airline travel and baggage restrictions.

Full details of the various travel insurance policies for senior travelers are available on the Insurefor.com website.
