INSURANCE COMPANIES DELAY PAYING CLAIMS, PAY 10% INITIALLY, RAISE WIND DEDUCTIBLES, EXCLUDE TERRORRISM, AND RAISE RATES IN MISSISSIPPI AND LOUISIANA BECAUSE OF KATRINA AND RITA. KATRINA VICTIMS ARE BEING PREJUDICED AGAINST BECAUSE INSURANCE SHOULD BE A NATIONAL RISK AND THE LOSSES SHOULD BE SPREAD ACROSS THE COUNTRY SO NOT JUST THE ONES AFFECTED SHOULD BE PAYING. THE INSURANCE COMPANIES JUST WANT TO COLLECT THEIR PREMIUMS AND NOT TAKE ANY RISK AT ALL. IF THEY CAN'T GET LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI RATES AND EXCLUSUINS TO PRE KATRINA, THEN THEY SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SELL INSURANCE ANYWHERE IN THE US. I THINK THAT CONGRESS CAN PASS SUCH LEGISLATION TO MAKE IT FAIR TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED.

William, I think a lot of people feel the same way as you about insurance. Whether or not it's fair, a number of insurance companies came out of Katrina and Rita looking less than golden. Unforunately, people who live in flood-prone areas have limited insurance choices. Based on some of the Katrina judgements, I think that the courts are coming around. Insureds who feel they have been treated unfairly should talk with their state insurance department- or an attorney.
